02/23/2021 Winter Storm Update from Judge Lapham

Now that Austin County has been declared at the Federal level, home and business owners can begin filing for assistance.  Go to disasterassistance.gov to begin the process.  The application says it will take about 20 minutes.  One of the first notes is this: "We cannot provide money to people or households for losses already covered by insurance.  If you have not already contacted your insurance company to file a claim, please do this as soon as possible.  Failure to file a claim with your insurance may affect you getting grant assistance."  This is not a county program nor a county application so other than direct you to the website, I can't answer questions about the status of your application.  I also do not know what is eligible for assistance and what will not be allowed.  Fill out the application, the worst they can do is tell you no.

Vaccine Update 03/15/2021

Today starts group 1C eligibility. Group 1C is those 50-64. So anyone 50 or older is eligible and those 16+ with underlying health conditions are eligible to receive a Covid vaccine.  I copied this list from someone else's post because it was very detailed:

Vaccination Sites -

• Brenham Regional HUB: https://wacounty.saferestart.net/

• Sealy Urgent Care: 979- 877-0022

• Brookshire Brothers Bellville: 979-865-8380 call to be added to their waitlist

• Sealy Pharmacy: 979-256-3045 call to be added to their waitlist

• Walmart Pharmacy: 979-627-0102: Link to sign up

• Walgreens Pharmacy: 979-877-0251: Sealy was not listed as a site, but that could change. online link

• CVS: 979-885-3538: Sealy is not listed as a site, but that could change. online link

Some are receiving the one shot J&J vaccine while others are still receiving the 2 shot Moderna.

For Hub vaccine locations: https://www.dshs.texas.gov/cor.../immunize/vaccine-hubs.aspx

DSHS shows Austin County at 74 estimated active cases, 1614 confirmed cases and 32 related fatalities. 6483 residents have received at least one dose of vaccine and 2813 are considered fully vaccinated.

Reminder the Governor removed the mask mandate last week. If a business posts that masks are required and enforces that, they are within their right to do so. If you choose not to abide by that business's rules, vote with your money, not your attitude. Attitude is the key to solving many problems, make it a good one.

Continue to be safe and pray for those who keep us safe and keep us free.

Judge Lapham Issues Declaration of Local Disaster for Public Health Emergency

The greatest precaution we can all take from the Covid 19 is to stay home if you are sick. If you have symptoms, stay away from older people, especially those who have respiratory issues already. You CAN NOT get Covid 19 over the phone! Call your friends and relatives to check on them, you don't have to cut yourself off from society, but use common sense. Call Grandma and Grandpa, tell them you are ok. That will ease their mind as well. If you're sick, don't spread it around. If you have symptoms such as fever and chest pain with a cough, call your doctor. If you have Teledoc or a vitrual doctor service with your insurance, use it. Don't go to the hospital and get others sick. While the weather is nice, go outside and get some fresh air and some sun. The most important thing you can do for yourself and your family is not to panic. Even if you do contract Covid 19, most likely you will recover. Some may never know they have it. Light cases can appear similar to allergies which are rampant this time of year as well. Stay clean, wash your hands and don't put your fingers in your mouth or around your face. And if you cough, don't cough on everyone and everything! It's really no different than the precautions you should take to prevent getting the flu. Those with XM radios in their vehicles, listen to Channel 121. It's supposed to work even if your subscription isn't current. It's the Docs from NYU. They provide current and straightforward information without all the hype. We will get thru this together.
